Product History:

Before it became a Sunday family staple, krumplipaprikás was the fuel of the Hungarian herdsmen (pásztorok). Originally cooked over an open fire in a cast-iron cauldron (bogrács) on the Great Plains. This dish was designed to be hearty, filling, and packed with energy. We have stayed true to those roots, preserving the authentic "bogrács" style that defines Hungarian gastronomy.

While the humble potato is the canvas, the masterpiece is painted with meat and texture. The soul of this stew comes from a generous amount of authentic Hungarian smoked sausage and traditional Hungarian farmers' sausage.

  • The Base: Our preparation starts with finely diced onions slowly caramelized on authentic Hungarian smoked bacon (szalonna) fat, creating an incredibly deep, rich foundation. We build the sauce with tomato paste and THG pepper spread, a touch of aromatic garlic, our unique spice mix and most importantly, our very own THG Authentic Hungarian Paprika to perfect the vibrant color and signature sweet-spicy flavor.

  • The Infusion: As the stew simmers in this rich base, the smoked sausages release their juices, infusing the tender Alberta potatoes with a deep, savory, and irresistibly smoky flavor that is the hallmark of traditional Hungarian cooking.

  • The Finish: In the final step, we add small, traditional Hungarian egg dumplings (Galuska), cooked right in the savory paprika broth. These tiny additions soak up the rich sauce, giving the stew an extra comforting and filling texture that completes the authentic, home-cooked experience.
