Our Story

The Hungarian Guy: A Taste of Modern Retro

Welcome to The Hungarian Guy, where every sausage tells a story — and ours is a century in the making.

Our journey started in Békéscsaba, Hungary, the sausage capital of Europe, with our founder, Zoltán. From a young age, he learned the secrets of the trade from his own ancestors, a legacy that would become our family’s great secret: recipes for artisanal sausages and charcuterie so unique they've earned us multiple awards in Hungary.

Our family's history isn't just written; it's tasted. As our company's head sausage-maker, I was told that I practically came into this world with a sausage stuffer in my hands. Trained by my father, Zoltán, from the age of three, I dedicated myself to the family craft.

After taking over the family business in Hungary, I met my wife, Michaela, and our shared passion for flavor took us on a 15-year odyssey across Europe, training with legendary sausage makers. We weren’t just learning; we were on a culinary quest, exchanging secrets with German sausage masters at the Oktoberfest, French salami artisans in Guernsey, Channel Islands, and Slovakian charcuterie experts in Levice.

Now, we've brought all of that tradition, expertise, and a whole lot of paprika to our new and permanent home in Cochrane, Alberta. We're excited to give our local community a unique food experience and a taste of history.

Our motto is "Modern Retro" — a philosophy that perfectly marries our centuries-old recipes with state-of-the-art meat science. This isn't just sausage. It's our family’s secret, a legacy perfected over generations, and the result is a flavor you won't find anywhere else in the world.

I'm Gabe, The Hungarian Guy, and I'm here to spice up your life, one secret recipe at a time.
